What to do Near Seattle-Tacoma Airport

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is a popular stop for layovers. If you have a few hours or even a day to spare, why not leave the airport and explore the local area’s wealth of attractions. From outdoor hotspots to quick trips into downtown Seattle, there is plenty to explore in and around SeaTac. Avoid the airport crowds and experience something new, making your trip even more memorable.

Go Shopping at Westfield

Westfield Southcenter is one of Seattle’s largest malls, and is located only a couple of miles from the airport. With more than 200 stores, a diverse restaurant selection, and an IMAX theater showing the latest films out of Hollywood – Westfield is ideal for wasting a morning or afternoon before your onward flight.

Hit the Sands at Alki Beach Park

Located approximately ten miles from Seattle-Tacoma Airport, Alki Beach Park is a popular spot for locals looking to enjoy some beachside fun near the city. While local weather doesn’t typically lend itself to swimming, the views of the Seattle skyline from the park are well worth the visit.

Visit Downtown Seattle

It is surprisingly easy to drive into Seattle and park in the downtown area. Spend your downtime exploring the city’s famous Pike Place Market or even take a quick trip up the iconic space needle before your next flight.  Downtown Seattle is approximately 15 miles from the airport, but do keep in mind that rush hour traffic could delay your trip. Alternatively, you can take the Link light rail from the airport to downtown with a journey time of only 35 minutes.

Grab Lunch at Cedarbrook Lodge

One of the most highly rated Sea-Tac hotels in the area, the Cedarbrook Lodge is less than five minutes from the airport and offers farm-to-table lunch and dinner at its on-site Copperleaf Restaurant and Bar. The property is set admist eleven acres of wetlands and features hiking trails if you’d like to get some fresh air before your flight.

Take Flight at the Boeing Factory

Just 30 miles north of the airport, the Future of Flight tour at the Boeing Factory offers a unique opportunity to see the production lines of its 747, 777, and 787 jets. The 90-minute guided tours allow airplane enthusiasts to see the building process of some of the world’s largest commercial jets. After you see a dreamliner assembled right before you, head back to the airport with a new appreciation of the modern airplane. Due to the popularity of this tour, advanced booking is recommended.
